Kiln Posts in 7 Sizes from 1 or 1 1/2 inch diameter and 1 to 4 inches high. A Kiln Post is classified as kiln furniture and made from Mullite refractory material. They are essential for everyday use in your glass kiln. it is common to use 4 of the same size posts for supporting kiln shelves or ceramic molds and providing elevation.
- Support kiln shelves
- Elevate molds to allow heat to circulate evenly around ceramic molds
- Allows maximum stacking space in your kiln by stacking molds or mini shelves at different heights
- Laid on their side they can become a form for draping your glass or ceramic materials
- Made by extruded from high refractory material
- Withstand heat up to Cone 10 = 2,380 Degree F or 1,305 Celsius
- Most have fluted sides and hole in the center
- When using them as kiln furniture to stack molds at different heights make sure you leave at least 1/2 inches in height and distance between each mold.
- When using them to elevate a shelf or mold, you should allow a minimum or 1/2 inch as well
- We do not recommend cutting your kiln post and instead consider cutting a softer kiln furniture material like a kiln brick to make easier to customize
- Like your kiln shelf, for double protection you can coat your kiln post with kiln wash / shelf primer
