The stand is made of solid .26 inch (6.66mm) thick, flat metal bars with flared ends to give it a larger flat surface on the table and provide a stable base for your artwork. 
Ascetically it is an elegant satin black finish created by a durable baked enamel surface.  Elegant enough for any display and subtle enough to not over take the beauty of your artwork.
Many other stands are made of heavy square thick metal, giving a less refined, chunky or heavy wrought iron appearance.
